i LOVE a morally complex character not just because it's often better written and more realistic (because let's face it, we're all complex creatures), but also because it's just more interesting!!! show me a selfish yet generally good woman who finds love and not a flat, self-flagellating caricature who has to get raked over the coals to be treated right!!!!!

I couldn’t agree with you more!! Everyone has so many layers to them, why should characters be any different!

Yes, I agree 100%

As women most of us have been taught to be caring, likable, forgiving etc. While those are genereally speaking qualities worth keeping, they do have a price and I feel like we often sacrifice a lot of our own personailities. I’m definitely working on not sticking to these behavioral patterns just for the sake of it. I wanna be more true to myself and stand up for myself even though somebody/society might not like it. 🧡

I totally agree! I think there’s also such double standards when it comes to those traits, like men not doing something is them not being pushovers but women putting their foot down are considered selfish and inconsiderate

what bugs me the most about this Carrie Bradshaw hate, it kind of proves to me that people aren’t always honest with themselves and aren’t comfortable seeing their own reflection. (She is a bad friend. A lot of the times she can be quite annoying.) but honestly, that’s what makes her such a well-rounded character. Miranda would get hated on because she was seen as too negative but I think that’s a reality for a lot of people who are afraid to be emotionally available. Each character can hold up a mirror to the audience, where the audience can see qualities in themselves and sometimes things they don’t like abt themselves. I think thats why its so "easy" to hate on them. I really love your take on this!

I have also not watched Nobody likes this yet!!!😅

I like hopping late on trends. 🤣🤣

Completely agree with you.

Female characters should be shown powerful without any back story or inherent weakness like they’re single.

I loved how you compared today’s issues with the witch trials. Nothing’s different to be honest.

Then, women were physically burned alive.

Now, they are being burned from within by ruthless comments, harassments and god forbid r*pes.

Sorry to end my comment on such a serious note. But it it what it is.

Get on the trend then!!

Yes I completely agree, female characters should exist and be praised for more than their relationships with others!

Don’t apologise for ending it on a serious note - I really love the imagery and comparison with being burnt by comments, so thank you for that!

No for real, I’m all for being able to have productive conversations on fictional characters but the easy use of the term annoying or selfish is too much. Let us be annoying and selfish sometimes!!

"For my part, I’ll start with celebrating being asked “what kind of art do you like?” and spending an hour talking about how colonialism has tarnished art by stealing and destroying numerous art forms and art pieces. An hour."

oh my! I agree 110%. Honestly, the show writers of SATC made the show so unrealistic as the seasons went by. like Carrie and Big’s dynamic was such a push and pull from both sides for YEARS and Charlotte’s conversion for Harry only and Miranda’s marriage to Steve. I mean it felt that the show is trying to fit everything into a neat ending because it just felt that all these three brilliant women only wanted to get with someone which is not exactly a bad thing since everyone wants companionship but it just felt…forced somehow? i completely agree with what you’ve said. I’d rather embrace all parts of myself, work and grow than be packed into a neat ending and whoever sticks, sticks.

Totally agree with everything you’ve said! It felt like the only way for them to have their success story was through marriage. I would’ve LOVED to see Miranda open up her own law firm! Her plot wasn’t just forced on her, it was trapping her in!

I adore interesting flawed characters, but the issue arises when they repeat the same character arc to keep the character interesting (character learns, and then next season magically gets worse). Yes, growth is boring, but we evolve to become different types of interesting, I just wish that was depicted more too.

I couldn’t agree more! Flaws are so important but sometimes the writing can depict them is such a frustrating way. The back and forth always shows more about the writers than the characters in my opinion

Its nice that you can split the writers from the core character, but I always think its in the writers hands to do right by the character so people don't have to try to defend bad writing but good characters.

THISSSSSSS. i literally always hate hearing carrie slander like god forbid there’s a character that doesn’t immediately appeal to everyone’s likability meter. like she’s a HUMAAAAAANNNNN. genuinely just trying her best. i’m not saying she be making the best decisions but who tf makes the best decisions ALL the time??? jeez cut her some fucking slack

100%!!! Female characters will go through trauma and constant distress and people will call them insufferable the moment they act poorly. You’re telling me you and everyone around you hasn’t had at least one questionable moment??

YUP!!! i think most people are just genuinely uncomfortable with a woman expressing her emotions and experiences loudly. they’re instantly labeled as “too much”.
